What computer system do you guys use there? We were using something called squirrel, which was... buggy... to say the least. But now we've changed to Micros. I've used Micros before, but with things just getting installed and all that, I think I'm gonna be a little more involved on the f&b end then I was before.

Mwahahahaha...welcome to the hell that is Micros!

It's not bad. You've used it before you say? I think it's all about who's in charge of programming it...At my last property, that somehow came to be my job...but at least I knew how to go about my business on the system...at my current property it's someone else doing the set up and it drives me insane! He thinks he's doing what's best, but it's so damn disorganized...

Good luck! I'll answer any Micros questions I can!

Do ALL Micros people lie to you when asked a direct question? Or just the ones I run into?

    Or better yet...

I check the Revenue Center report at the end of the day. It gives an amount for checks opened, and checks closed. Because our restaurant runs only two shifts, these numbers are supposed to match at the end of they day. Now, supposed you check them, and they don't match. And then you check for open checks and there are no open checks. Do you have any idea of a quick and simple way to get the Micros machine to tell you what check is out of balance? Because there is not quick and simple way to get the tech people to tell me... they want to tell me that it's not really out of balance.

Hmmmmmm...that's an interesting question...I don't know off the top of my head...I can't see a reason why the checks would be out of balance though...the checks can only add up to what is rung to begin with...it sounds more like a human error counting the money collected for the check...

<font size="2" face="Comic sans ms, Helvetica, sans-serif">Oh, believe me, I have no doubt that this originated as an IOHS (insufficient operator headspace) error, I'm just wondering if you knew of a way to figure out WHICH check was in error, if there aren't any open checks.

I hate Micros. I really, really do...

The Micros can't tell you which check is wrong because your operator punched something wrong to begin with...consequently, unless you know what was rung wrong to begin with, how can you know where to begin looking?

So in other words, Micros has a sense that something, somewhere within its bowels is wrong, but it can't tell me where. Wonderful.

OK, so is there a way to go through check by check and see if they are in balance? I mean, if I know what department it is, that narrows it down a little, right? (And knowing who's working should help me figure out when it happened, ie: if Moron the Manager was working in the evening, anything done on his shift is suspect).
